Chennai: Karnataka police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested former sub-inspector of police for allegedly forcing a Dalit youth to drink urine while in police custody, said a report.
A report from IANS said, the accused was identified as Arjun, a former sub-inspector at the Gonibeedu police station in Chikkamagalur district and he was arrested by a team headed by the superintendent of police Ravi D channannavar on Wednesday night in Bengaluru.
According to the report, Gonibeedu police officials on May 10 secured KL Punith in connection with an elopement case and the case was probed by the accused sub-inspector. A First Information Report was filed against the accused sub-inspector on May 22 and subsequently, he was placed under suspension, as per the report.
Meanwhile, Punith was booked under a rape case. However, he had managed to get a bail. The case is investigated by CID sleuths, the report said.
The report further said that Karnataka High Court in July had turned down the plea to quash the case registered against Arjun and the court had further directed the police file charge sheet in the case.
Several organizations in the state had planned to stage protests this week demanding the immediate arrest of the accused, the report added.
