Karnataka: Minor Disguised As Patient Plants Mobile Phone In Toilet Of Kasturba Medical College, Detained

The incident surfaced on Wednesday when the security personnel discovered the phone after it rang inside the women's restroom of Kasturba Medical College in Mangaluru.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly placing a mobile phone, fitted with a camera, inside the women's restroom of Kasturba Medical College in Mangaluru. The incident surfaced on Wednesday when the security personnel discovered the phone after it rang.

Subsequently, the college authorities surrendered the device to the police leading to the apprehension of the minor based on the information retrieved from the phone.

A case has been registered at the North Police Station of the city under the relevant section of the Indian Penal Code.

The accused allegedly entered the college premises disguised as a patient.

Subsequently, he was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board following standard procedures.

Earlier, another similar incident occurred on July 18, 2023, when three female students were accused of placing a mobile phone inside the toilet of Netra Jyothi Medical College. They allegedly clandestinely recorded videos of other students using the facilities, leading to widespread outrage.

Rameshwaram Cafe Blast

The issue in a Medical college has come at a time when tension continues in Karnataka due to Rameshwaram cafe blast. On March 1, 10 individuals sustained injuries in a low-intensity blast at a well-known café in Bengaluru. The explosion was caused by triggering an IED bomb using a timer. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the investigation on March 3 and offered a reward of Rs 10 lakh for information aiding the arrest of each accused.

Last month, the NIA apprehended Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa from Kolkata in connection with the incident.

The Rameshwaram Cafe, heavily damaged by the blast, resumed operations eight days later with heightened security measures, including the installation of metal detectors.
