Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara announced on Friday that the Congress central leadership has initiated the formation of fact-finding committees across various states to review the party's performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. The initiative is aimed to understand the reasons behind the party's disappointing results.

"The fact-finding committee for Karnataka is led by senior Congress leader Madhusudan Mistry," he said, as per a report on IANS. Similar committees are being established in other states to conduct thorough reviews and provide insights into the electoral setbacks faced by the party.

In Karnataka, the Congress managed to secure only nine out of the 28 Lok Sabha seats. This outcome was particularly disappointing given that the Congress holds the state government. The BJP and its alliance partners captured 19 seats, showcasing a significant lead over Congress.

The Congress had banked heavily on its guarantee schemes and had anticipated winning between 15 and 20 Lok Sabha seats. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had assured the central leadership that the party would secure more than 15 seats, a target that was not met.

Minister Parameshwara emphasised that the party's central leadership would take decisive action based on the findings of the fact-finding committees. This could include measures against leaders and workers deemed responsible for the electoral failure. "The central leadership will positively take action based on the report against the leaders and workers responsible for the colossal debacle," Parameshwara stated, as per the report. He added that the nature of the actions would vary depending on whether the party was in power or in opposition in the respective states.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar's brother DK Suresh also lost Bangalore rural constituency in which he contested.
