A young woman aged 23 tragically lost her life due to drowning after the vehicle she was travelling in with her family became immobilized in neck-deep water at the KR Circle underpass in Bengaluru on Sunday. Banurekha, who was employed at Infosys, has been identified as the victim, news agency ANI reported. The fire department personnel successfully saved Banurekha's accompanying family members.
Accompanied by her family members who arrived from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, the woman was sightseeing in the IT capital.
The family of the deceased woman will receive a compensation of ₹5 lakh, as announced by the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah. The family was touring in a hired vehicle when the incident occurred, as explained by Siddaramaiah during his visit to the location.
Speaking with media, CM Siddaramaiah stated: "The family from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh had hired a car and come to see Bengaluru. Bhanurekha works in Infosys. Due to the downpour, the barricade at the underpass fell down and the driver took the risk of crossing the underpass, which he should not have."
According to eyewitnesses, the driver attempted to navigate through the water quickly, but instead ended up causing the vehicle to become fully submerged. As a result of the heavy rain and hail, the water level began to rise. According to news agency PTI, individuals in close proximity quickly came to the rescue when the family began to call out for assistance and wept.
They provided sarees and ropes to aid in their ability to stay buoyant. The individuals who were caught attempted to ascend, but were unsuccessful. Some were rescued from the water by emergency service swimmers, while the remainder were retrieved with the aid of a ladder.
The individuals who made it through were rapidly transported to the medical facility, where the unfortunate discovery was made that Bhanurekha had passed away. Upon the survivors' sighting of their loved one's deceased body, a boisterous mourning ensued within the hospital.
