Two youngsters reportedly chased, stopped and shouted at a young woman who was riding a scooter with a man from a different religion in Mangaluru on Monday. The arrested men, identified as Bajrang Dal activists in a report on IANS, stopped the two-wheeler and allegedly questioned and shouted slogans at the woman.


According to ANI, Anupam Agrawal, Police Commissioner of Mangaluru said, "Two people - Akshay Rao and Shibin Padikkal - arrested for stopping and questioning a man and a woman, belonging to two different communities, who were going on a bike yesterday in Mangaluru."

"The two are colleagues in the same organisation and were going home on the motorcycle. The police say that the two accused were following them on a bike. A complaint has been registered in Police Station," he said.

According to the police, a young woman from Chikkamagaluru was riding a scooter with a young man from a different religion. They both worked at a stall in Mangaluru. Bajrang Dal activists, noticing them moving together for some time, chased and stopped them for questioning, shouting at the girl for being with a boy from another community, according to IANS.


Upon learning about the incident, youths from both religions rushed to the spot and engaged in an argument.


The Pandeshwara police rushed to the spot and dispersed the crowd, while taking the duo to the police station and are investigating the matter.


The incident led to a tense situation in Dakshina Kannada district.
