Karnataka Man Keeps Wife Confined In Room For 12 Years, Police Come To Rescue
Within the initial week of their marriage, the accused confined his wife to a room in their residence and never let her leave.
A man allegedly confined his wife to "house arrest" for 12 years citing suspicions about her character at Hirege village in Mysuru district of Karnataka. In a late-night operation prompted by a tip-off, the police rescued the victim Suma and arrested her husband Sannalaiah.
According to IANS, the preliminary investigations revealed that Suma was the third wife of the accused and he had suspicions about his wife since the beginning of their marriage. Within the initial week of their union, he confined her to a room in their residence.
The husband kept intensifying his control. He secured the door with three locks and forbade his wife from interacting with anyone. He even prohibited her from using the toilet located outside by providing a bucket inside the room for her use, and handling its disposal personally. Disturbed by the situation, a relative of the victim reported the incident to the police.
The first two wives allegedly left the accused due to torture.
The rescue operation, conducted by a team of ASI Subhan, advocate Siddappaji, and social activist Jasheela raided and rescued the victim from the house. The accused husband had issued threats, warning his wife of harm if she attempted to leave the house or communicate with others.
Earlier, despite the victim's mother seeking assistance from local leaders to resolve the matter, the accused remained unyielding in his cruelty. The victim, who shares two children with the accused, has sent to them to her parents’ house.
