A friendly game of gully cricket in Belagavi took a violent turn, leading to a stone-pelting incident between two different communities. Reports indicate that at least eight individuals sustained injuries in the clash. Around 10 individuals have been arrested in connection with the violence.


The skirmish occurred following a quarrel between two groups over a cricket-related issue in Alwana Galli Street, Shahapur, Belagavi. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in the exchange of stones between the groups. Local authorities swiftly responded to the escalating violence. The Commissioner of Police visited the scene and provided security measures deploying additional police personnel to maintain order in the area.


According to ANI, Shahpur police said, a quarrel followed by stone pelting broke out between two groups over a cricket issue in Alwana Galli Street, Shahapur, Belagavi. Immediately the Commissioner of Police visited and provided security and deployed police personnel in the street. Shahapur police have registered the case, checked the CCTV, arrested ten people and are interrogating them.


The CCTV video reportedly showed a woman standing in the middle of the lane being targeted by a machete just as a police car approached the scene. As a police officer exited the vehicle, locals directed attention to the machete lying on the ground.

The injured individuals including a police officer have been promptly taken to BIMS Hospital for medical treatment.
