In firecracker-related accidents, over 28 people were injured in Bengaluru on Sunday. Most of the injuries were in the eyes of the patients. About 22 cases were reported at Narayana Nethralaya Eye Hospital and four cases at Minto Eye Hospital, according to available data. Of 22 cases at Narayana Nethralaya Eye Hospital, 10 people suffered serious injuries and 12 people suffered minor injuries.

According to ANI, Dr Rohit Shetty, Chairman of Narayan Health said, "Four of the injured were children. Ninety per cent of the injured were watching the fireworks and were returning home when the incident happened."

However, the Supreme Court had directed a nationwide restriction against bursting crackers but people still flouted it. The Karnataka government also advised people to only use green firecrackers. The City Police Commissioner B Dayananda told people to burst firecrackers only between 8 PM to 10 PM. Yet, people violated the rules in many parts of the city and continued to burst firecrackers till late Sunday night.

This also resulted in pollution levels spiking after Diwali 2023 in Bengaluru. Karnataka's capital city witnessed a 55 per cent increase in PM 2.5 levels on Monday till 12 PM.

However, the pollution was comparatively low in Bengaluru this year compared to the previous year.
