A functionary of Bharatiya Janata Party’s youth wing was fatally stabbed at a temple festival in Kottur in Karnataka’s Dharwad after a group of persons got into a brawl with him, said the police on Wednesday. As per a report by PTI, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Dharwad unit member and gram panchayat vice president, Praveen Kumar was stabbed to death on Tuesday night, the police said.

Three unidentified persons were detained and were being questioned by police, the report said.

According to the Superintendent of Police B Lokesh, the incident took place during a festival at Goddess Udachamma Devi temple in Kottur village of the district.

During the festival, a few persons reached the venue in an inebriated state and created commotion, he said, adding that the group clashed with people who questioned them.

Kumar intervened to pacify them but the persons who were in a drunken state stabbed him to death, said the police officer.

"We have detained three people and are interrogating them," he said, adding that a case has been registered.

Lokesh said all aspects of the case will be investigated and no one will be spared whether they were directly or indirectly involved in the murder.
