Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai slammed the Congress-led state government for allegedly failing to protect the drinking water of Karnataka and the interest of farmers on Thursday. The BJP leader, however, urged Siddaramaiah government to move the Supreme Court to legally fight to stop Cauvery water discharge to the neighbouring state.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Bommai said, “The government has been faltering on the Cauvery issue since the beginning. Already about 15 TMC water like 10,000 cusecs has been released as per the order of CWMA but no legal action has been taken against it.”

"After initiating the release of 5000 cusecs of water, what significance is there for the Deputy CM to engage in discussion with legal experts? As per the previous order, it was required to submit an affidavit to the Supreme Court, but that hasn't been done either," he said.

The statement came after Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar held a consultation with legal experts and officials in Delhi regarding the release of Cauvery water amid a dispute Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Further, Bommai demanded to stop water discharge immediately and file an appeal in the SC. Bommai said, “There is no point in legal battle as the water is being released now. I demand that the water should be immediately stopped and an appeal to the Supreme Court should be made and a legal fight should be started by making strong convictions. The Congress government has failed to protect the drinking water of Karnataka state and the interest of the farmers.”
