The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the Karnataka government led by Siddaramaiah of "land jihad" on Thursday after it decided to hand over two acres of land worth more than Rs 500 crore to the Minority Welfare Department, news agency IANS reported.

Speaking to the media in Bengaluru, Leader of Opposition (LoP) R Ashoka said, "We have no objection to vacant land being given. However, the government is transferring land belonging to the Department of Animal Husbandry".

R Ashoka took to social media and posted on X in Kannada, titled "Congress sarkarada land jihad".

He went on to say in the post, "CM Siddaramaiah, shouldn't there be a limit to appeasing Muslims?" You are conspiring to give Muslims two acres of land in the heart of Bengaluru owned by the Animal Husbandry department.

"Why shut down the government veterinary hospital that was treating cows and other animals and hand it over to Muslims? The veterinary hospital was not only established to treat the cattle, but other pets were also given treatment there. We will not allow the handing over of Rs 500 crore worth of land. Can we call this measure of the Congress government as land jihad?” his Kannda X post read in English.

According to Ashoka, the Karnataka government ordered on February 26 to hand over two acres of land in the Chalawadipalya Ward of the Chamrajpet Assembly Constituency in Bengaluru for the construction of Moulana Azad/Morarji Desai Residential Schools to the Minority Welfare Department.
