Bengaluru: Weeks after Mysore rape, another such incident came into light as a Uber cab driver in Bengaluru assualted and raped a woman passenger. But, this time Karnataka Police were swift in catching the culprit as they arrested the accused hours after the case was lodged. The driver was identified as Devarajulu, 25, who hailed from Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh.


The incident happened when the woman was on her way to home in the a Uber cab -- which was being driven by Devarajulu -- after attending a night party at her friend's house. The incident happened at around 4 AM and 5 AM in the limits of Jeevan Bhima Nagar police station. A case was registered under the section 376.


The Deputy Commissioner of Police has visited the spot. According to a report, he said, "The victim was returning home from a friend's place when the attack took place." According to police sources, the victim after partying at a friend's place booked the cab in an inebriated state and boarded it. When she reached her destination, she was asleep.

The driver has absconded and hours after the case was lodged the police could successfully arrest the driver. Devarajulu is a resident of Avalahalli and he has been working as a Uber driver for the last two years.


As the girl was sleeping in the cab, driver assaulted and raped her. Girl called the control room and reported against this issue as a result the Bheema Nagar Police took this initiative and successfully arrested the driver.


The police collected CCTV footage that showed the vehicle was parked in a location near an isolated place for about 20 minutes. They also gathered other evidence. Earlier, the accused claimed to be innocent but police to do medical examination for more information.
