New Delhi: A man allegedly threw acid on his lover after the latter turned down his marriage proposal in Bengaluru on Friday, news agency IANS reported. According to the report, the woman is a divorcee and rejected the man’s proposal who asked her to marry him immediately. The Kumaraswamy Layout police have launched a hunt for the accused, officials said. As per reports, this is the third acid attack incident in the Karnataka capital over the last two months.
According to police, the accused and the woman were former lovers. However, the woman had married someone else. After her divorce, the accused got in touch with her and they decided to marry. However, the woman had asked him to wait for some time.
Police said the accused, identified as Ahmad from Gowripalya, had been pestering the woman asking her to marry him immediately and the two quarreled over the issue several times.
On Friday, while the woman was on her way from Kumaraswamy Layout to JP Nagar locality, Ahmad followed her with a bottle of acid. He waylaid her and poured the acid on her face near Sarakki Junction in Bengaluru. He then fled the spot, police said.
On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the woman to the hospital. The victim has suffered injuries on her face and her right eye has been damaged due to the attack, according to the IANS report.
Further investigation in the matter is underway, police added.
This is the third incident in two months, triggering panic and fear among the Bengaluru residents.
In April, Nagesh, a spurned lover, had poured acid on a working woman for refusing his advances and proposal of love. The police had later arrested him in Tamil Nadu. He was said to be hiding as a sage.
In another incident, a miscreant from West Bengal attacked his friend with acid while quarrelling over a petty issue in Cubbonpet locality of Bengaluru.
