In a distressing incident from Bengaluru, an ambulance carrying a critically ill five-month-old baby on oxygen was stopped and the driver beaten up by four people for allegedly overtaking their car.
The incident was reported from Bengaluru on Sunday night when the ambulance, en route to Vani Vilas Hospital from a private hospital in Tumakuru, was transporting the infant.
The ambulance driver was pulled out by the men near Nelamangala toll plaza for the mere reason that it had overtaken them.
A video of the incident is getting viral on social media. In the video, the four men could be seen thrashing the driver.
Though the police arrived in the scene, the attackers, fearless of the cop's presence kept assaulting the ambulance driver, identified as John, despite repeated pleas of the child's parents.
The accused were reportedly drunk and chased the ambulance for several kilometres before cornering the ambulance near the toll plaza.
"I was taking a baby from Tumkur to Bengaluru. The baby's health condition was very serious. While driving, I overtook a vehicle. Then they came and assaulted me. Whatever happened to me today shouldn't happen to anybody else. Please get me justice," the driver reportedly said.
Three accused - Yuvraj, Manjunath and Latish - have been arrested in this case.
"An ambulance driver was driving his vehicle fast and overtook an Innova car. The people in the Innova opposed him overtaking the vehicle. Near the Nelamangala toll, people in Innova took over the ambulance and assaulted the driver." Mallikarjun Baldandi, Bengaluru Rural SP, said, according to India Today.
He said that an FIR has been registered and they are investigating the case.
"We will find in inquiry if they were inebriated state when they were driving the vehicle," he added.
