An 18-year-old boy was stabbed to death on Sunday by a group after an altercation triggered after a photoshoot at a dhaba near Doddaballapura in Bengaluru Rural district. A brawl broke out between Surya and another group at the dhaba, according to police officials. During the brawl, Surya was stabbed in the chest and he later succumbed to his wounds at a nearby hospital.

The incident took place on Diwali when Surya and three of his friends were clicking their photos. According to a PTI report, a number of people visit that 'dhaba' for photoshoots as there's a wall at the entrance there which has paintings that attract customers. Surya and his three friends visited the said 'dhaba' on the occasion of Diwali to click a few pictures. Another group who had lunch at the ‘dhaba’ arrived there and asked them to take their photos as well. Surya and his friends initially refused but later agreed to do so, police officials said.

After the photoshoot, the group asked Surya to transfer the snaps immediately to their WhatsApp numbers, however, he told them that it could not be sent directly as it had to be downloaded and transferred to a system first since these were taken with a camera. The group kept persisting which led to a brawl between the two groups during which one of the accused, Dileep, took out a sharp-edged weapon and stabbed Surya in the chest. Right after this, the accused group fled the scene on their motorcycles.

Surya collapsed on the floor after being stabbed and was later rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

Superintendent of Police (Bengaluru Rural district), Mallikarjun Baldani told PTI, "A case of murder has been registered in connection with the incident. Statements of the victim's friends have also been recorded. We have identified two of the five accused involved in the incident and efforts are being made to identify the rest and arrest them."
