Rohtak (Haryana)[India], Aug 26 (ANI): Security has been beefed up with para military and police forces being deployed in Haryana's Rohtak jail where Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim is lodged after being convicted in the rape case.

Navdeep Singh Virk, Inspector General (IG), Rohtak told ANI, "Jail is given extra security with para military and police forces. There are check posts all over the city. We are ensuring that nobody goes around the main place. We are making sure that the crowd does not gather here."

He further said that the Army has not been called as the state police are sufficient to tackle the situation.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI), Ashwani Kumar said proper arrangements were made to prevent any untoward situation near jail.

"Strong steps will be taken against the miscreants. Jail is 2.5 km away from here. No supporter tried to come here. There is curfew in the city. Tight security is there in Rohtak," he added.

At least 29 people were killed, including two women and a child, and more than 250 injured as violence erupted in Haryana and Punjab after the Dera Sacha Sauda chief was convicted in a rape case by a CBI court in Panchkula on Friday.

The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on August 28.

After being convicted, the Dera Sacha Sauda chief was taken to Rohtak by helicopter. (ANI)
