Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 20 (ANI): The Himachal Pradesh government has transferred IGP (southern range) Zahur H. Zaidi and Superintendent of Police of Shimla D. W. Negi, who were probing the rape and murder of a school girl.

The move comes after huge public outcry and anger over the mishandling of the minor girl's rape and murder case.

Hours after one of the accused died in police custody, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh assured a thorough investigation into the matter.

"Police is investigating the matter. Guards on duty at that time have been called for interrogation. Action will be taken against them," Singh told the media.

Earlier, villagers pelted stones and staged protest outside Kotkhai Police Station after one of the six accused in gang rape and murder of minor girl died in custody.

According to the police, the person was murdered by another accused.

At least six people were arrested last week in connection with the gang rape and murder of a minor girl in Kotkhai region of Shimla district.

The victim, who was a student at Mahasu government school in Kotkhai, was returning back from school when she was kidnapped and raped on July 4.

Two days later, police recovered her body from Halaila forests of Kotkhai.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry in the case. (ANI)
