Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], Apr. 10 (ANI): The West Bengal State Election Commission on Tuesday revoked its earlier order where it extended the last day of filing nominations for State Panchayat elections till April 10.

The Commission had extended the earlier deadline of April 9 by a day. This decision was made after violence marred the filling of nominations papers for the polls.

Earlier in the day, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) party leaders approached the Supreme Court against State Election Commission for scrapping its earlier order.

The top court, however, refused to intervene and directed the Commission to take appropriate action in the matter.

BJP party leaders also protested outside State Election Commission office in Kolkata.

Panchayat elections in the state will be held in three phases from May 1 to May 5. (ANI)
