Amritsar (Punjab) [India], October 4 (ANI): Punjab Cabinet Minister and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu on Wednesday gave Rs. 15 Lakh to farmers who lost their crops due to fire that broke out in the fields of few villages in Punjab's Amritsar city in April.
When the crops were damaged due to fire in April, the Minister had announced that he would help the farmers as much as possible.
While speaking to ANI, Sidhu said, "I was pained by the entire incident. As I felt to do something for the farmers, I gave the money from my own pocket. This gives me satisfaction as I could become a help for them. 'Simple living and high thinking' have to be every politician's moto".
"If you really want to change society then you should have to change yourself. It always feels good when you have done something for the people. The issue is that people have lost faith in politicians and I am just doing my best to improve the image," he said.
Sidhu further attacked Akalis for looting the state in their ten-year regime and said that this was the reason that people of Punjab pushed them to number three position in Vidhan Sabha polls.
The Sidhu also ensured that the State Government has been following due procedures to give compensation to farmers and will be implemented soon.
Earlier, the former cricketer had also given Rs. 2.5 Lakh from his own pocket to pay electricity bill of Shaheed Bhagat Singh's museum in Khatkar Kalan. (ANI)
