Madhya Pradesh LIVE UPDATES: It is a neck and neck battle between Bharatiya Janta Party and Congress as both the parties are unlikely to attain the majority 116 seats. As the first round of counting Congress is leading in 112 seats and BJP in 102 seats. The counting of votes for the 2018 Assembly Election in Madhya Pradesh began at 8am on Tuesday. The battle is for 230 assembly seats in the state, the voting for which took place across 65,341 polling stations on November 28. The party which is able to bag 116 seats will take over the throne which has been ruled by Bharatiya Janta Party for last three terms. The state assembly has 35 seats reserved for Scheduled castes and 47 for the Scheduled Tribes.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has won from his traditional Budhni seat by a margin of 58,999 votes, defeating former Union minister and senior Congress leader Arun Yadav. Chouhan had won the seat in 2013 with a margin of 84,805 votes.

The NOTA or none of the above option appeared to have outperformed several political parties, including the AAP and Samajwadi Party, which contested the assembly polls in the five states. In Madhya Pradesh, NOTA votes were 1.5 per cent of the total counted votes. Samajwadi Party got 1.01 per cent while AAP got 0.7 per cent votes.

An exciting see-saw battle is on in Madhya Pradesh, which the BJP has ruled for 15 long years, with trends from counting centres at times putting the Congress in the lead and at times behind the ruling party, keeping everyone guessing. Now the Congress is leading in 112, BJP in 110.
The Congress hailed its good showing in assembly polls in three Hindi heartland states and thanked people for choosing "lover over hate". The Congress appeared set to wrest Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh from the BJP, which was trailing marginally in Madhya Pradesh in a cliffhanger. "Democracy has won! Smelling victory over the ruling BJP based on trends for all the 230 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress has begun contacting leaders of small parties and also independents for mustering a simple majority, party sources said. Congress leaders have contacted the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Samajwadi Party (SP), Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) and independents who are leading, the sources said.

It's still tough to predict a clear winner in Madhya Pradesh as trends are changing every minute. While the BJP is leading in 110 seats, the Congress is ahead in 109 seats. It seems that Independent candidates and the BSP hold the key to power in the state. BSP supremo Mayawati, however, has announced she won't go with the BJP.

The battle is for 230 assembly seats in the state, the voting for which took place across 65,341 polling stations on November 28. The party which is able to bag 116 seats will take over the throne which has been ruled by Bharatiya Janta Party for last three terms. The state assembly has 35 seats reserved for Scheduled castes and 47 for the Scheduled Tribes.
The fight is majorly between ruling BJP and Congress, where the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is seeking a fourth straight term in office in the state, and on the other hand Congress is desperately seeking that elusive victory in a direct face-off with the BJP in a renewed bid to come back to power after 15 years; by adopting a pronounced soft-Hindutva approach.
It is also a major battle between senior Congress leader Arun Yadav and the incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan as they face off each other in Budhni.
The fate of two major political parties in Madhya Pradesh has been decided by 504,95,251 (5.04 crore) voters of which there were 2.63 crore male voters and 2.41 crore female voters.
The Bharatiya Janta Party had deployed its full force in the state ahead of the elections as its senior most leaders like PM Modi, party Chief Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adiyanath addressed 10, 25 and 15 rallies respectively. Also, Congress President Rahul Gandhi alone addressed 27 rallies in the state.
