Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], July 31 (ANI): The Kauvery Hospital on Tuesday said that Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief M. Karunanidhi's vital signs have gradually normalised but he will continue to remain under observation.

In a statement, Executive Director of Kauvery Hospital, Dr Aravindaran Selvaraj said, "there has been a resolution of the condition which led to his hospital admission, an extended period of hospitalization will be necessary due to age-related overall decline in Karunanidhi's general health, altered liver functions and haematological parameters. He continues to maintain his vital signs with active medical support."

Earlier in the day, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and representatives of Malaysian Indian Congress visited Karunanidhi.

Yesterday, representatives of Sri Lankan President, Maithripala Sirisena visited the ailing former Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister.

Earlier this week, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu also met Karunanidhi at the Kauvery hospital.

On July 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi enquired about the ill health of Karunanidhi and prayed for his quick recovery. The Prime Minister also spoke to Karunanidhi's son MK Stalin and daughter Kanimozhi regarding the same.

Many political leaders, including Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam along with the other state ministers, met DMK working President M.K Stalin to inquire about the health of his ailing father.

Karunanidhi was admitted to the hospital following a drop in his blood pressure last week. The DMK chief, who is on intravenous antibiotics, was earlier undergoing treatment at his Gopalapuram residence in Chennai. (ANI)
