Boleng (Arunachal Pradesh) [India], September 02 (ANI): Arunachal Pradesh's biggest festival 'Solung' of the Adi Tribe was celebrated with traditional fervor and in a grand way at Boleng in Siang District on Sunday.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein was the chief guest, while Minister of Power, Handloom and Handicrafts Tamigi Taga were made guest of honour for the event.
Mein said that everyone has a responsibility to protect and preserve our age old traditions and culture and to pass on to this legacy we have received from our fore fathers to the next generation.
He said that the Department of Indigenous Faith and Culture has been created with a view to protect and preserve the traditions and cultures of the indigenous people and added it can be strengthened in future to carry research and development on traditional practices and cultural heritage.
Speaking on agriculture and horticulture potential of the state, he emphasized that the 'Siang' belt in particular can become the fruitful bowl if cultivation of fruit crops is taken up in large scale.
He urged the educated youths to avail benefits of welfare schemes like 'Deen Dayal Upadhaya Swavalamban Yojana' and women under the 'Deen Dayal Upadhayay Bunkar Yojana.'
Also stressing on the importance of communication, Mein said connectivity in the state can be only achieved with construction of bridges and informed that the State government is giving priority to the construction of bridges along with the roads to connect the unconnected places located in remote areas.
He also appealed to the people to actively participate in the 'New India Movement' (2017-22), as called by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India poverty free, terrorist Free, corruption Free, clean and free from any kind of communalism and casteism.
Taga called upon the people to take up farming and entrepreneurships to increase their earning.
He discouraged the use of chemical fertilizers and advised the people to take up organic cultivation.
The Handloom Minister also assured to complete the drawing of transmission line from 'Subbung Hydro Project' within this year and make Boleng-Pangin self sufficient in electricity.
Chief Patron of 'Central Solung Festival Celebration' Nalong Mize proposed to declare Boleng's Solung as a tourist festival and also to create 'Games and Sports' infrastructure in the newly created district.
Parliamentary secretaries, MLAs and various dignitaries attended the mega festival. (ANI)
