Cyclone Gaja is set to make landfall between Cuddalore and Pamban districts in Tamil Nadu on Thursday evening, the IMD said. The weather department has issued high alert and said that cyclone Gaja is very likely to cross coast between Pamban and Cuddalore on Thursday evening or night with a wind speed gusting upto 100 kmph.

IMD on cyclone gaja: It is very likely to move west-southwestwards and cross Tamil Nadu coast between Pamban and Cuddalore, around Nagapattinam during late evening of today, the 15th November 2018 as a Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph.

IMD bulletin: Cyclone Gaja is very likely to move west­southwestwards and intensify further into Severe Cyclonic Storm during next 6hrs. While moving west­southwestwards thereafter, it is likely to cross Tamilnadu coast b/w Pamban and Cuddalore around Nagapattinam during 15th November evening/night as a Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 80-­90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph.
IMD bulletin: Cyclonic Storm Gaja over Southwest Bay of Bengal moved further west­southwestwards with a speed of 14 kmph during past 6 hrs & lay centered at 0530 hours IST of today, the 15th Nov over Southwest Bay of Bengal near lat 11.5°N and longitude 83.2°E, about 370 km east­northeast of Nagapattinam(Tamilnadu).
In its Thursday bulletin, the IMD said the cyclone moved at 14 kmph and lay centred over east-northeast of Nagapattinam at 5.30 a.m.

The Tamil Nadu government has 30,500 rescue personnel on standby.
The Met office had warned storm surge of about 1.0 metres likely to inundate low-lying areas of Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal district of Puducherry at the time of landfall.

Cyclone Gaja is set to make landfall between Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore and Pamban districts on Thursday and will bring heavy rainfall to the state. The weather department has issued high alert and said that cyclone Gaja is very likely to cross coast between Pamban and Cuddalore on Thursday evening or night with a wind speed gusting upto 100 kmph. All educational institutions in Puducherry and Karaikal regions would remain closed tomorrow in view of the cyclone. The National and State Disaster Response Force personnel have been deployed while vigil has been proposed in coastal districts. The Indian Navy was also put on high alert in view of cyclone Gaja approaching the coast of south Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Navy officials said the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) has assumed a high degree of readiness to render necessary humanitarian assistance as the cyclone is poised to cross the coast of the two states on Thursday evening. "Two Indian Naval ships -- Ranvir and Khanjar -- are standing by to proceed to the most affected areas to undertake humanitarian aid and distress relief," said a Navy official. He said these ships will have additional drivers , doctors, inflatable rubber boats, integral helicopters and relief material on board. The official said helicopters, Dornier aircraft and one P8I aircraft are on standby to undertake reconnaissance, rescue and casualty evacuation.
