Bareily (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Augsut 22 (ANI): The main accused in the acid attack on two minor girls in Bareily has been arrested by the police here.

While speaking on the issue, SSP Jogendra Kumar said that one of the accused, namely Bhura, has been caught while the other three are absconding.

"We have taken the main accused in custody," he said, adding, "One of the four men has been arrested. An FIR has been lodged regarding the incident. The father recognized the accused but we are still investigating more on the matter."

The Police are also under the impression that this could have been done by the victims' step-mother, who left their father after falling out with him.

The incident happened at around 3 in the morning on Tuesday, a day after the four accused men had an argument with the girls' father regarding financial matters.

The victims were admitted to the district hospital with immediate effect.

The father initially thought that this was another braid-chopping incident, which has been prevalent in the country for the past few months.

"We thought that this is another incident of braids being chopped off. When my sons tried helping them, even their hands got burnt," he said.

According to the doctors, both the girls are in a serious condition. (ANI)
