Assembly Election Results: Congress MLAs authorise Rahul Gandhi to decide CMs in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh
Madhya Pradesh Election Results: The Congress, which was locked in a see-saw battle with the BJP, emerged as the single-largest party with 114 seats. The party is two short of the simple majority mark, 116 seats, in the 230-member Assembly. The party received a major boost this morning when BSP supremo Mayawati announced her party's support. Mayawati said she's pledging support to keep BJP out of power. BSP marked victories in two seats. Meanwhile, Shivraj Singh Chouhan submitted his resignation to MP Governor Anandiben Patel and told reporters that he is to be blamed for the party's loss. "I take the responsibility for BJP's defeat in Madhya Pradesh. We received a lot of love but fell short of majority. I have congratulated Kamal Nath ji," he said. The BJP is close behind with 109 seats. Experts say PM Narendra Modi congratulating Congress yesterday was also an indication that that the BJP was not intending to approach independents and other parties to form the government contrary to what it did in Karnataka earlier this year. After Chouhan tendered his resignation to the Governor, a delegation of Congress leaders also met her to stake claim.
