India-Russia Defence Ties Set To Strengthen When Modi Visits Moscow

Russia remains India’s largest source of arms imports, and there are indications that ties are set to expand. Russia has already granted clearance for the supply of 3rd N-powered submarine on lease.

In the midst of rapidly changing geopolitical dynamics, the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to travel to Moscow on 8-9 July, after a gap of five years, has taken many by surprise. Given the current geopolitical turbulence, Modi’s visit is expected to be closely monitored by the international strategic community, particularly in light of the escalating tensions between the United States and Russia over Ukraine, which has resulted in sanctions on Russia.  The US-led sanctions
