The Indian Navy on Saturday carried out twin carrier operations involving INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya off the western coast of India. This operation coincided with its role as a net security provider, safeguarding merchant ships from the Arabian Sea to the Gulf of Aden amid rising incidents of attacks.






This comes days after the Indian Navy warship INS Kolkata conducted a rescue operation in the Gulf of Aden, saving 21 crew members from the Barbados-flagged Bulk carrier MV True Confidence after it was reportedly hit by a drone or missile, as per the Navy's statement.






The incident occurred approximately 55 nautical miles southwest of Aden, resulting in critical injuries to the crew and necessitating the abandonment of the ship. INS Kolkata, deployed for maritime security operations in the region, arrived at the scene promptly and rescued the crew using its integral helicopter and boats.


According to the Navy, the ship's medical team provided critical medical aid to the injured crew before evacuating them, including the critically injured personnel, to Djibouti. Additionally, earlier in the week, INS Kolkata responded to a fire onboard the Liberian-flagged MV MSC Sky II, which was reportedly caused by a drone or missile attack while transiting approximately 90 nautical miles southeast of Aden.


IAF's Exercise Desert Knight 


The IAF recently conducted Exercise Desert Knight in collaboration with the French Air and Space Force (FASF) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Air Force over the Arabian Sea, with IAF aircraft operating from bases within India. The exercise, held on January 23, saw participation from a diverse range of aircraft, including Rafale fighters from France and F-16s from the UAE.


"The main focus of Exercise Desert Knight was on enhancing synergy and interoperability between the three Air Forces. The interactions during the exercise facilitated the exchange of operational knowledge, experiences and best practices amongst the participants. Such exercises are indicative of the growing diplomatic and military interactions in the region, apart from showcasing the prowess of the IAF," the Ministry of Defence stated.
