How The Indian Navy Carried Out A Deadly Op Against Somalian Pirates In 40 Hrs

In a massive anti-piracy operation, the Indian Navy saved a hijacked merchant vessel, saved its crew and $1 million worth cargo. The action was carried out by INS Kolkata in collaboration with the IAF’s C-17 by air-dropping MARCOS.

New Delhi: Taking its role as the ‘first responder’ in the Indian Ocean region a notch higher, the Indian Navy carried out a major anti-piracy operation in the last two days saving an international merchant vessel, its entire crew and cargo worth $1 million even as it apprehended the pirates who also launched a counter attack. The operation was carried out 2600 km from mainland India mainly by INS Kolkata, the Navy’s stealth guided-missile destroyer on which marine commandos
