“My life's best decision was quitting English medium for Hindi medium,” said Faizal Khan, better known as ‘Khan Sir’, at ABP Network's Ideas of India Summit 2023 during a session chaired by author Chetan Bhagat.

He said his dream is to ensure that even a labourer is able to understand quantum physics, and said poverty must never prove to be a hurdle in the path of education as emphasised the need for affordable education for all.

“We teach students as friends to make them confident,” said the teacher.

Asked why Bihar is still not on par with many other Indian states, Khan said: "There are a lot of reasons for the backwardness of Bihar, the education system is down, and what is good is not accessible to all. The population is dense, there is poverty and no industrialisation. Education is the only metal that cannot be detected in a metal detector. However, it takes a long time to show results. Slowly and gradually, the education system is revamping the minds of the youth, making them change their mindset."

Talking about his struggles, Khan said: "I have seen poverty so close that people don't even see their wives that close. My classmates had better privileges, social, financial, and more resources, which wasn't the case for me. This inspired me that education should be accessible for all."

He added: "Poverty must never be a limitation in education and emphasizes the need for affordable education for all."

Talking about his journey as a teacher, Khan said: "I first started from home tuition for which I was paid Rs 600. I later shifted to coaching and within a week I had a lot of students."

The Rs 107-Crore Job Offer

'Khan Sir' was once offered a "Rs 107 Crore job".

Asked about this, he said: “I was offered a job of Rs 107 crore. You can’t buy love and respect with money. The education system has been very expensive and poor people feel depressed to access education. I dreamed to provide affordable quality education.”

He recalled how they made a team of "best UPSC teachers" and provided a 2.5 lakh coaching course for Rs 7,000 only.

"My mom used to motivate me, saying 'you’re the best, I know you the best, don't think about what your teachers say about you'," Khan said.

He added that those who are laughed at have often created history. "IITs are not good. Good students go to IITs and make these institutions good," he said.

Speaking about controversies, which he often courts, Khan had just one thing to say: "I am a teacher, and I will say right for right, wrong for wrong."

Khan, the founder of Khan GS Research Center, is known for his innovative teaching style, particularly in the realm of current affairs. He specialises in history, geopolitics, geography and other related subjects. His videos are incredibly popular on social media, viewed by millions. In fact, non-students also listen to him as his lectures are informative, and he adds a touch of humour, with his commentary at times causing controversy among certain groups.
