Ideas Of India 3.0: 'Ideas Of India Summit', a series of ABP Network events, has entered its third edition with Day 1 of the insightful summit kickstarting today on February 23. The two-day conclave to be held today and tomorrow on February 24 will feature prominent figures from several fields. Popular filmmakers Vipul Amrutlal Shah, Madhur Bhandarkar and Leena Yadav graced the session titled 'Anatomy of Art: Are Our Movies Dividing or Uniting Us' moderated by journalist and entrepreneur Shaili Chopra.
During the conversation, filmmakers delved into the much-discussed film 'Animal,' directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The discussion revolved around whether films like 'Animal' are a mirror reflecting society or if they have the potential to corrupt it.
Filmmaker Vipul Shah expressed the importance of films initiating conversations, regardless of whether the discussions are positive or negative. He emphasised, "If your film has a conversation and it continues even after you leave the theatre, not necessarily positive discussion, it can be either positive or negative. We are not saying that ‘Animal’ is trying to show identifiable male or that’s how most Indian men are; the makers have not claimed that. The film is a story of an individual character with whom many people can disagree on many levels. Disagreement also leads to conversation and it leads to more people going to the theatre to watch the film out of curiosity."
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar commended Sandeep Reddy Vanga for 'breaking creative templates' with 'Animal.' He acknowledged Vanga's unconventional approach, stating, "Sandeep Reddy Vanga has broken the whole grammar of the film industry. As a filmmaker, we are always asked by the OTT platforms or production houses about the duration of the film. Sandeep made a three-hour twenty-minute film with an adult certificate, and it became a blockbuster. Even the way the film has been made – long scenes, dialogues – Sandeep has done a commendable job. He proved that if a film is not good, even if it’s of two hours, people will not watch it. But if it has content, people will take out even 3 hrs 20 min to watch it.”
