It is safe to say that Vidya Balan has built a name for herself as an A-list actress in the Hindi film industry. However, when she initially began her career in the South film industry, she had to deal with a lot of rejections.
A film starring superstar Mohanlal was Vidya's debut project, however it was put on hold after only one shoot. Mohanlal and the film's director have already collaborated on multiple projects, and Vidya Balan was the latest addition to their team. Vidya said that she was then referred to as 'jinxed'. She was replaced in 11 films that she was scheduled to appear in after her departure.
When Vir Sanghvi asked why no man has ever been called ‘jinxed’, Vidya coherently replied, “I think the women who have been called ‘jinxed’ have gone out to become the biggest star.”
The actress expressed that women are judged far more easily than men. She briefly talks about honour killing and said, "You want to blame the ills of the world on women. What is honour killing about? You are basically saying my honour depends on you which is ridiculous. You don't have the legs to stand on and you are putting the onus of your honour on women. Shame on you."
Vidya Balan is currently enjoying the success of her last movie, ‘Jalsa’ which was released on Amazon Prime Video on March 18.
ABP Network is hosting its first 'Ideas of India' Summit, which will take place in Mumbai on March 25-26. The best minds from various fields will talk about India's 75-year journey and the future it holds.
'Ideas of India' is a one of its kind summit that will bring together strong and visionary leaders from different walks of professional lives. The summit will focus on topics that are contemporary, relevant and forward thinking.
