The total number of samples tested in India up to August 29 is 4,14,61,636 including 10,55,027 samples tested on Saturday, says Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)


Unlock 4 guidelines: Metro rail allowed to operate with conditions, schools to remain shut

Government of India on Saturday announced guidelines for ‘Unlock 4’, which will come into effect from September 1. As per the new guidelines, Metro rail will be allowed to operate with effect from September 7 in a graded manner, while schools, colleges, and other educational institutes will remain shut for students up to September 30.

Moreover, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said India has made tremendous strides in containing the Covid-19 outbreak and instructed his ministry to develop SoPs for Parliament and Assembly sessions. Meanwhile, the Centre's decision to conduct the NEET and JEE exams this year amid the persisting coronavirus pandemic has sparked a row, with Opposition leaders protesting over student's safety.


Global COVID-19 cases surpass 2.5 crore

Global COVID-19 cases have surged past the 2.5 crore-mark, according to a Reuters tally. This figure includes over 8.4 lakh deaths.

This comes on a day when India's daily new case numbers surpassed those of the United States and Brazil -- the two countries worst hit by the pandemic.
