New Delhi: With over 35 lakh people administered Covid-19 vaccines across the country so far, there is a wonderful news for India in the fight against the novel pandemic as Serum Institute of India chief Adar Poonawalla has announced that the company may launch yet another coronavirus vaccine in June this year. “Our partnership for a COVID-19 vaccine with @Novavax has also published excellent efficacy results. We have also applied to start trials in India. Hope to launch #COVOVAX by June 2021!” tweeted Poonawalla.

If given the green light, this could be India’s third vaccine as two vaccines - Serum Institute of India's Covishield and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin – were earlier rolled out in the country earlier.


Meanwhile, India’s total Active Caseload dropped to less than 1.7 lakh on Saturday, as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The active caseload now consists of less than 1.6% (just 1.58%) of India’s total positive cases.

The Health and Family Welfare Ministry further said nine states/UTs have a higher weekly positivity rate than the national average adding that Kerala records highest weekly positivity rate with 12.20 per cent, followed by Chhattisgarh with 7.30 per cent.
