Amid the onging surge in daily Coronavirus caseload, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Tuesday warned people of the national capital to adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour as the pandemic is still "far from over". Saxena's remarks came a day after Delhi on Monday reported as many 1,227 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 14.57 per cent, while eight more people succumbed to the virus.

"We are witnessing a rise in COVID19 infections, consistently high positivity & cases of reinfection. It is essential that we realise that the pandemic is far from over. I appeal to all to strictly adhere to COVID Appropriate Behaviour. We cannot afford to let our guards down," Saxena said in a tweet.

The capital city is witnessing yet another wave of Covid-19 with sudden uptick in daily cases. Before Monday, Delhi has logged more than 2,000 cases for 12 consecutive days.

Delhi had reported as many as 2,162 cases with five deaths and over 1,800 recoveries on Sunday. However, the lower number of cases on Monday can be attributed to lower testing.

According to official data, Delhi's overall Covid-19 caseload stood at 19,85,822 and the death toll at 26,389 as of Monday. There are 7,519 active COVID-19 cases in the city. As many as 5,760 patients are in home isolation, the health bulletin said yesterday.

On Saturday, it logged nine deaths due to COVID-19 and 2,031 cases with a positivity rate of 12.34 per cent. The capital city saw 10 deaths, the highest in six months, and 2,136 cases with a positivity rate of 15.02 per cent on Friday.

In view of the ongoing uptick in fresh infections, Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government has formed two teams of revenue department officials for management of Covid-related data.

These teams will upload and monitor data on the Delhi government's COVID-19 Data Management Portal, an official told news agency PTI. "In supersession of all previous orders issued from this office related to the arrangement of teams in Revenue, HQ, to look after the work related to the COVID Data Management, from now onwards, the following team will look after the work in addition to work in their original branches," the order issued on August 10 said.
