New Delhi: India reported 5,753 Omicron positive cases in the last 24 hours, which is 4.83 percent higher than yesterday, according to news agency ANI. The fresh covid-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours is 2,64,202 which is 6.7 percent higher than yesterday. 


With this, the active caseload in India stands at 12,72,073. The daily positivity rate stands at 14.78 percent. There have been 1,09,345 recoveries in the last 24 hours as the recovery rate stands at 95.20 percent. 


The number of deaths reported in the last 24 hours is 315 that has taken the total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic to 4,85,350.


As per the health ministry, over 15.17 crore balance COVID-19 vaccine doses are available with the States/UTs to be administered


According to the news agency PTI, in the last 24 hours, Maharashtra has recorded no new Omicron cases, however, the covid-19 cases recorded were 46,406 with 36 deaths reported. Among these, 13,702 cases were only from Mumbai with 6 new deaths.


On the other hand, Delhi recorded 28,867 fresh covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours with 31 deaths. The positivity rate in Delhi stands at 29.21 percent. 


Keeping in mind the rising cases of coronavirus across the country, many states have imposed restrictions to curb the spread of the infection. The measures adopted by the state include night curfew, weekend lockdown, prohibition on social gatherings, and the prohibition on four or more people traveling together among others.


As the third covid-19 wave looms over the country, the government has started administering booster doses to the frontline workers and the elderly with comorbidities. The vaccination drive for adolescents between 15 to 18 years of age has also started.
