After the central government started the Covid vaccination drive life of people started coming back on track and the number of infected Covid cases in the country also reduced to a greater level but Maharhastra which was one of the worst affected states in the country is again moving towards an alarming situation as the cases have begun to surge in the state.


On Sunday, Maharashtra reported more than 4,000 Covid cases after a span of 39 days, while Mumbai reported over 600 cases after over a month.


 Owing to the surge, Mumbai's doubling time that was nearing 600 days has now dropped to 479 days. Maharashtra on Sunday reported 4,092 new cases taking the overall caseload to 20,64,278. The city registered 645 cases, pushing the city's total to 3,14,076.


 The health department said that Maharashtra's COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 95.7 per cent, while the fatality rate was recorded at 2.5 per cent.


The state which had been reporting the highest number of cases, on Sunday reported 40 coronavirus-related deaths, which pushed the death toll count to 51,529.


1,355 coronavirus patients were discharged during the day. The recovery count in the state grew to 19,75,603.


The sudden surge in cases has begun to instill fear among the people. However, the government has said to continue following the Covid guidelines which including wearing masks in public places, keeping a 6 ft distance and washing hands regularly.
