Mumbai has seen a spike in the number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in the last 24 hours. According to Maharashtra health department, the city recorded 1,167 new cases of the infection while the number stood at 8,807 for the state on Wednesday.
The latest spike in cases have come after two days of tapering in the numbers in both Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra. On Tuesday, 643 fresh Covid cases were recorded in Mumbai and 6,218 in the state.
The daily cases began to rise in February after Amravati, one of districts contributed to the increase, and reported 9,069 Covid-19 cases in February. These fresh Covid-cases in Maharashtra has once again raised concerns for the Centre and various other states which have imposed travel restrictions on people coming from there.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra and Kerala alone account for 75 per cent of the country's current active cases after a sudden rise in new infections in the recent past.
