New Delhi: Amid the ongoing spike in Covid cases, Kerala on Saturday clocked 50,812 fresh infections taking the tally to 59,31,945. The state also reported eight new fatalities pushing the Covid toll to 53,191.
According to the data released by the health department, 47,649 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours and the active caseload stood at 3,36,202.
“There are 3,36,202 active Covid-10 cases in Kerala out of which only 3.4 per cent are admitted to hospitals,” the state health department said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
Out of the total infected patients, 4,98,406 persons are under observation of which 11,658 are in isolation wards of various hospitals across the state, according to data.
Among the districts, Ernakulum topped the Covid chart with 11,103 cases, followed by Thiruvananthapuram with 6,647 and Kozhikode 4,490 infections.
Out of fresh cases logged on Saturday, 208 had reached the state from outside while 46,451 were contacts of other infected persons. Of the total infected are 402 health workers and the source of infection of 3,751 patients is yet to be traced.
Among the Covid related deaths, the southern state witnessed 94 fatalities over the last few days while 311 were designated as Covid deaths following appeals after the new guidelines of the Supreme Court and the state government.
On Friday, the southern state had reported 54,537 and the day before it had witnessed 51,739 infections. Kerala registered 55,475 fresh cases on January 25, making it the highest ever one-day surge in cases since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020.
