Kerala on Tuesday reported another monkeypox case in India. The 30 year old man is undergoing treatment in Malappuram, news agency ANI reported.

ANI quoted state’s health minister Veena George as saying that the man "had reached Kozhikode airport on 27 July from UAE."

This is the fifth case of monkeypox in the state.

Earlier on Monday, Kerala had reported the first death of a monkeypox case in India. The 22-year-old man was a native of the state's Thrissur district.

According to Veena George, the state's minister of health, the guy tested positive in a "foreign nation," ANI reported.

However, as per some media reports, he arrived in India on July 22, having been diagnosed with the virus in the United Arab Emirates. He was taken into a medical facility in the state due to "fatigue and encephalitis."

On July 27, he was hospitalised after getting a fever. A death investigation has reportedly been requested by Kerala's health minister. The case fatality rate of the viral clade that is now circulating in India is barely 3-6 percent, the investigation will attempt to determine the causes of the death.

In May, the Union government started monitoring the illness at airports. However, if the arriving passenger has a fever or any other visibly tangible sign, such as a skin rash, the surveillance can only suspect a case.
