Coronavirus Latest: According to health ministry data, India recorded more than 60,000 coronavirus cases for the second straight day on Saturday as 61,537 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the overall case count to 20.88 lakh.

As many as 42,578 have died from the disease, 933 in the last 24 hours. Five states with the highest test positivity rate (TPR) – percentage of tested people turning out to be positive for Covid-19 infection (by cumulative data for tests and cases) – are Maharashtra (19.25%), Telangana (13.85%), Delhi (12.63%), Puducherry (10.25%), and Karnataka (10.01%). Five most affected states by total tally of cases are Maharashtra (490,262), Tamil Nadu (279,144), Andhra Pradesh (206,000), Karnataka (158,254), and Delhi (142,723).

Maharashtra's recovery rate reaches 66.76%

With 300 more fatalities on Friday, Maharashtra's COVID deaths crossed the 17,000 mark while the state recorded 10,483 more cases. However, the state recovery rate went up from 65.94 percent to 66.76 percent. In some positive development, Mumbai deaths dropped below the 50-plus range with cases below 900. Pune district, another hotspot in the state, now has 1.7 lakh cases. CM Uddhav Thackeray has asked officials to focus on tracing patients and contacts. India, for the ninth consecutive day, continued reporting over 50k cases, with Saturday recording the over 60,000 cases.

Telangana records single-day high

Telangana reported a new single-day high with 2,207 additional coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking the overall caseload in the state to 75,257. The death toll rose to 601 with 12 more fatalities, a state government bulletin said on Friday. Till now, 53,239 have recovered and the recovery rate stands at 70.7%.

Andhra Pradesh crossed the 2 lakh mark Friday as another 10,171 were added taking the overall tally to 2,06,960 out of which over 1.2 lakh people have recovered till now. With 89 new deaths, the state reported its highest single day spike in death toll so far.

Worldometer recorded 274,318 new cases worldwide in the past 24 hours. As many as 19,523,841 people around the world have been diagnosed with Covid-19. While 12,533,535 have recovered, 722,952 have died so far.
