People across India are reeling under heatwaves and high temperatures this summer season. Temperatures in different parts of the country are rising up to 45 degrees Celsius. In Delhi and other cities in North India, severe heatwave conditions and strong surface winds are prevailing, and there seems to be no respite from the scorching heat soon. A severe heat wave is declared if the departure from normal exceeds 6.4 notches.
Exposure to hot environments and heatwaves for a long period of time has severe impacts on health, like dehydration and heat exhaustion. There is one more critical concern that requires attention during this summer season, which pertains to the impact of sweltering heat on people suffering from kidney-related health issues.
Doctors have claimed that there has been a rise in the number of cases of kidney stones during the summer season due to a lower intake of water throughout the day. To understand more about this issue, ABP News spoke to nephrologist Dr. Vinant Bhargava.
Speaking on the rising cases of kidney stones among youth, Dr. Bhargava said that there is a chance of a rise in kidney stone issues in people due to less intake of water and exposure to heat for a longer period.
"If water consumption is less, there is a chance of a rise in kidney stone issues in people. Whenever we receive cases of people suffering from kidney stones, we always ask them to increase their water consumption. If someone is not suffering from kidney stones and getting exposed to heat, it can only be possible when there is a high amount of protein in their diet. People need to ensure that their water or liquid intake is high if they are roaming in a hot environment. People who are working in a hot environment should ensure they consume at least 4 to 5 litres of water per day. People who are working in offices where temperatures are regulated should also ensure high water consumption," Dr. Bhargava told ABP News.
