New Delhi: When people with high blood pressure take a doctor's advice they ignore certain things. You can take care of these small and essential things by avoiding certain foods to maintain healthy blood pressure.

Coffee: Coffee contains good amounts of caffeine. People with hypertension should not drink coffee. It has been observed that drinking coffee increases blood pressure faster. High BP patients should also avoid other energy drinks.

Canned Food: Canned food is another item that is not good for high BP patients. It contains preservatives as well as a large amount of sodium with almost zero nutritional value. Sodium further aggravates the problem of high BP. Eat homemade fresh food instead.

Additional Salt: Control the amount of salt intake and do not sprinkle salt on top of fruits, salads, etc. Stay away from sauces that contain a lot of salt. Use rock (sendha) salt instead of white salt in your daily meals.

Sugar: Sugar does not directly elevate blood pressure but it does contribute to obesity and diabetes. Consuming excess sugary products can lead to weight gain and obesity. Being overweight predisposes people to high blood pressure and high cholesterol problems.

Processed Meat: Processed meat also has high sodium levels. A high amount of salt is used to prepare processed meat. Also, eliminate sauces, chutneys, pickles, cheese, bread, etc., which are taken along with processed meat as they can also trigger blood pressure.

Bread: Bread is used in every household but people with high BP should distance themselves from it. The flour and the butter mixed together while processing the bread are not good for people with high BP.
