New Delhi: India has reported a sharp spike in Coronavirus cases as the country crossed the 20,000-mark for fresh cases today. the country has recorded 20,139 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to the data updated by the Ministry of Health. The positivity rate also surpassed the 5 per cent mark on Wednesday.
With the addition of fresh Covid-19 infections, the country's active case tally now stands at 1,36,076. 16,482 people recovered from the disease in the single day while 38 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.
The daily positivity rate of the country has now surged to 5.10%.
Maharashtra
Maharashtra on Wednesday reported 2,575 fresh coronavirus cases, while 10 more patients succumbed to the infection in the state, according to a PTI report.
With these additions, the state's overall COVID-19 tally rose to 80,10,223, while the toll increased to 1,48,001, the department said in a bulletin.
The state had recorded 2,435 cases and 13 COVID-19-linked fatalities on Tuesday.
Mumbai recorded 383 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours and one more fatality due to the respiratory illness.
West Bengal
West Bengal's is also reporting a huge surge in Covid cases as the state ally went up to 20,59,264 after 2,979 fresh cases, 320 more than the previous day’s count, were registered on Wednesday.
For more deaths due to the disease took the toll to 21,255, it said.
The state had recorded 2,659 new cases and five fatalities on Tuesday.
The positivity rate rose to 18.59 per cent while it was 18.46 per cent on the previous day.
