New Delhi: India on Sunday recorded 8,582 fresh covid-19 cases after 104 days, pushing the nation's infection tally to 4,32,22,017, while the count of active cases jumped to 44,513 from 40,370, news agency PTI reported. According to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Sunday, the country witnessed 4,435 discharges in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total recovery rate to roughly 98.68 percent and total recoveries to 4,26,52,743.


In the previous 24 hours, four people succumbed to the infection. The country's overall death toll today stands at 5,24,761. The first fatality from the COVID epidemic was recorded in India in March 2020.









On Saturday, 1,745 additional Covid-19 cases were reported, bringing the total number of active patients in Mumbai to almost 10,000. Meanwhile, the state reported 2,922 cases and one fatality.


On Saturday, the daily caseload in Mumbai fell somewhat after recording nearly 2,000 new cases the day before.


This is due to a decrease in testing from 15,346 on Friday to 14,227 on Saturday, according to authorities.


Within the previous 24 hours, the test positivity rate (TPR) – the number of positive cases out of all the tests performed — climbed to 12.26%.


Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 2,922 new covid cases on Saturday, with one fatality. According to a state health official, the state observed a decrease in instances after recording 159 fewer cases than the previous day.


BA.5 sub-variant was discovered in a 37-year-old Pune guy. His sample was processed at the Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research in Pune and retrieved in home isolation, according to officials. On May 12, the man returned from England.


There are presently 14,858 active cases in the state. Maharashtra's overall caseload increased to 79,07,631 cases, with 1,47,868 Covid deaths.
