New Delhi: India is reporting a surge in Covid cases for the first few days and the country again registered over 1000 infections in the last 24 hours. 1,150 new Covid-19 cases were detected in the country on Saturday while the active cases now stand at 11,558.
According to the data shared by Union Health Ministry, 4 new fatalities pushed India's Covid death toll to 5,21,751.
The active cases comprise 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76 per cent, the ministry said.
An increase of 192 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was recorded as 0.31 per cent and the weekly positivity rate as 0.27 per cent, according to the ministry.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,25,08,788, while the case fatality rate was recorded as 1.21 per cent.
The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive have exceeded 186.51 crore.
Delhi
The national capital recorded the highest spike in infections on Saturday as the city recorded nearly 26 per cent jump in the number of COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 5.33 per cent, according to the data provided by the city health department.
The city saw 461 fresh cases and two deaths. It had Friday recorded 366 COVID-19 cases and zero death, and the positivity rate stood at 3.95 per cent.
The data showed that the city's positivity rate increased by 25.95 per cent in the last 24 hours. Despite less number of tests, the positivity rate jumped high and went beyond 5 per cent on Saturday.
A total of 8,646 COVID-19 tests were conducted the previous day, the bulletin stated on Saturday. While Friday's bulletin stated that the number of tests conducted a day before was 9,275.
