New Delhi: India continues to report over 1000 Covid infections and with increasing cases in schools and colleges the situation is raising alarm among people. The country has  1,007 new coronavirus infections, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,30,39,023 in the last 24 hours.


With the addition of new cases and 818 patients recovering from the deadly disease,  the active cases rose to 11,058, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

The death toll climbed to 5,21,737 with one fatality reported from Maharashtra, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The active cases comprise 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76 per cent, the ministry said. An increase of 188 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded as 0.23 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was recorded as 0.25 per cent, according to the ministry. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,25,06,228, while the case fatality rate was recorded as 1.21 per cent.

The cumulative doses administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive has exceeded 186.22 crore.


Maharashtra


Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 124 fresh coronavirus positive cases and one fatality, the health department said.

With this, the state's COVID-19 tally rose to 78,75,448 and toll to 1,47,821.

On Tuesday, the state had recorded 113 cases and four fatalities.

113 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the overall recovery count to 77,26,903. The COVID-19 recovery rate in the state stands at 98.11 per cent.

There are 724 active cases in the state, it said. Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Latur, Osmanabad, Yavatmal, Bhandara, Chandrapur districts do not have any active case, said a PTI report. 

Mumbai reported 73 fresh cases. One death in the state was reported from Sindhudurg district. The state's case fatality rate stands at 1.87 per cent.
