India recorded 25,920 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The number of recoveries recorded in the last 24 hours was 66,254.
The downward trend in the number of fresh Covid-19 cases continues as India registers 4,837 fewer cases than yesterday. With these numbers, currently, the active cases in the country stand at 2,92,092. The daily positivity rate is at 2.07 percent with a recovery rate of 98.12 percent.
The number of fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours is 492. The active cases comprise 0.68 percent of the total cases. Thus, it can be gauged that the spread of Covid-19 has been curtailed to a large extent.
So far, 174.64 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country while 12,54,893 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra reported a slight rise in cases
On Thursday, 2,797 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in Maharashtra, while 40 people have died due to infection in the state. According to a health dept bulletin, a total of 78,53,291 people have been confirmed infected in the state so far and 1,43,532 people have died due to the infection.
With Covid-19 cases in India on a downward spiral, the Centre on Wednesday asked states and Union Territories to review, amend or do away with additional restrictions after considering the positivity rate in their regions.
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, in a letter to chief secretaries of all states, said the Covid-19 pandemic in India has been declining steadily since January 21.
