Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday announced that his newly-formed government will bear all expenses of the Covid-19 patients in private hospitals.


Stalin in an order said the state health insurance cover will bear the expenses of Covid treatment in private hospitals hereon.


This comes as the state reported 195 deaths and 24,898 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday. There are over 1.3 lakh active Covid cases, taking the state’s tally to over 12 lakh.


The Chief Minister also issued another order hours sanctioning Rs 2,000 each to the state’s rice card holders.


“The Chief Minister had signed an order to extend Rs 2,000 each to 2.07 crore rice card holders at an expenditure of Rs 4,153.39 crore,” IANS quoted the official statement as saying.

Besides, Stalin has also signed an order aimed at reducing the price of public sector “Aavin” milk brand by Rs three per litre.


In addition, an order permitting the women to travel in ordinary town buses free of cost was also issued stating the “government will bear the additional expenditure of Rs 1,200 crore as subsidy to the transport corporations”


Stalin also issued an order to constitute a new department “Chief Minister in your constituency” to be monitored by an IAS officer for running the department on a day to day basis.
