New Delhi: The condition of Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij who contracted coronavirus after being administered a trial dose of Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin, has become critical. A report by IANS says that the minister was shifted to Gurugram's Medanta Hospital in a critical condition on Tuesday.

Vij was admitted to the Haryana government's Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak on Saturday. He also received convalescent plasma therapy. But after his conditions did not improve family members decided to take him to Medanta.

On November 20, Vij, who is also Haryana's Health Minister, was administered a trial dose of a coronavirus vaccine as part of the third phase trial of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin. He had even announced on Twitter that he will be the first volunteer in his state for the anti-Covid vaccine.

But within 15 days of him being administered the trial dose, Minister took to Twitter and informed about his test reports.
"I have been tested Corona positive. I am admitted in Civil Hospital Ambala Cantt. All those who have come in close contact to me are advised to get themselves tested for corona," Vij tweeted.

Hyderabad-based Pharma company Bharat Biotech had said that the clinical trials of the vaccine are based on a two-dose schedule which is given 28 days apart. "The vaccine efficacy will be determined two weeks after the second dose.”

After Vij's announcement, the Union Health Ministry said, "The antibodies against the infection build up in a human being only after a specific number of days pass after the second dose of the vaccine is taken, since this is a two-dose vaccine. The minister in question has taken only one dose of the vaccine."
