COVID-19 Tally: Delhi Sees Yet Another Dip In Daily Caseload, Mumbai Logs 5,568 Infections

COVID-19 update: Delhi on Saturday reported a rise in infections with 11,486 new cases and the highest number of covid deaths (45) in the 3rd wave.

New Delhi: Delhi on Saturday reported 11,486 fresh cases of Covid-19 and 45 more fatalities due to the infection while the positivity rate saw a marginal dip to 16.36 percent, according to the data shared by the health department.

According to the health bulletin of the Delhi govt, the active number of patients in the city reached 58,593. Meanwhile, 14,802 people recovered in the last 24 hours. Of the total active cases in Delhi, 44,415 patients are in home isolation and 2,423 are admitted to hospitals.

With 70,226 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the positivity rate of the COVID case in Delhi remained 16.36 percent.

On the other hand, Maharashtra also reported 46,393 new COVID cases, 30,795 recoveries, and 48 deaths in the last 24 hours, whereas the active cases are 2,79,930 in the state. Till date, a total of 2759 patients infected with the Omicron variant have been reported in the state, out of these 416 cases were reported today.

Mumbai reported 3,568 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours and as many as 231 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, as per the data shared by the health department. 

Though the cases are dipped in the worst affected cities of Mumbai and Delhi, COVID is tightening its grip in southern India. Cases are crossing the 40,000 mark in Kerala and Karnataka every single day. While Kerala has tightened curbs and Karnataka has revoked the weekend curfew.

Infections are multiplying at an unprecedented rate in Kerala. Amid the COVID explosion, the state govt has decided to ease weekend curbs. The curfew will be reimposed if the hospitalisation go up. 

Further south, the situation is different as the COVID Tsunami sweeps Kerala, the state govt has announced fresh curbs. With over 40,000 cases being recorded daily, the positivity rate has exceeded 44%. A total lockdown has been announced for the next two Sundays.

The state health department has asked private hospitals to hand over details of daily admissions in the ICUs, use of ventilators and beds to the District Medical Officers.

"The private hospitals need to submit their daily admissions in hospitals including the number of occupants in the ICUs and use of ventilators to the DMOs concerned. Those hospitals which refuse to hand over the data will face strict action," Health Minister Veena George said in a release reported by PTI. 

The total infection in the country stands at 3,89,03,731 with 3,37,704 new cases added in the last 24 hours on Saturday, according to Union health ministry data.
